BRIAN APPLETON's
HISTORY OF ROCK 'n' ROLL

BRIAN APPLETON picture

On Monday 10th July 2000 I went to the Playhouse Theatre in Cheltenham to see BRIAN APPLETON give us a lecture on the History of Rock 'n' Roll.

Brian explained how he had influenced ROD STEWART by coming up with the first line of MAGGIE MAY, how he had written the first Progressive Rock song called "Lucy (you came through the wrong wardrobe)", which he played a snippet of and was all about 'Narnia'.

He also explained how he had auditioned for GENESIS when PETER GABRIEL left the group, how he had given BOY GEORGE the song title "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me". Another song he said he had influence on was "Make Me Smile (Come Up And See Me)", in that it was because he walked in on STEVE HARLEY that created the gap.

Another song he sang was called "It's My Turn To Be Poorly", which was performed in the style of THE SMITHS (playing in the background).

I enjoyed the show but wished there were more songs in it.

BRIAN APPLETON is the latest creation of actor/singer & songwriter GRAHAM FELLOWS, who also gave us JOHN SHUTTLEWORTH and JILTED JOHN, therefore these facts can not be taken seriously.
